Household Waste Recycling Centres at tipping point

Hampshire County Council wants your opinion on the Household Waste Recycling Centres or “Tips” around the county by 22 August. Whether you love or loathe them, this is your chance to make your voice heard.

Go to www3.hants.gov.uk/waste-and-recycling to complete the survey or call Hantsdirect on 0845 603 5634 to request a paper copy.

Hampshire County Council provides 24 HWRCs across the County for householders to
recycle or dispose of their bulky household and garden waste and they want to make sure they are providing good value for money for the tax payer.

The options being considered are:

  1. Closing one or more sites that are not good value for money.
  2. Reducing the amount of trade waste wrongfully disposed of at sites
  3. Accepting waste from small local businesses for a fee.
  4. Charging for the disposal of DIY waste (e.g. plasterboard) as this costs a lot to  dispose of.
  5. Reviewing opening hours to lower management costs
  6. Working with charities or communities to increase reuse of furniture and other items.

So if you have been delighted with something you have found in the Tip shop or frustrated with the queues or the opening hours, have your say now by completing the survey.
